How to Become a Realtor

Step 1: Determine eligibility
To be eligible to apply for registration as a real estate broker, you must have been registered and employed as a salesperson for at least 24 of the 36 months immediately preceding the date of the application.
If you are not a registered real estate salesperson in Ontario and are interested in starting a career in real estate, read about how to become a real estate agent.
Step 2: Complete the required education
The Real Estate Broker Program is for active real estate salespersons who are currently registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) and are interested in continuing their education to become registered as a real estate broker.
Broker Qualifying Exam
Successful completion of the Broker Qualifying Exam is a requirement to getting started with the Real Estate Broker Program. The Broker Qualifying Exam is designed to test working knowledge on the key areas involved in trading in real estate in Ontario and is three hours in duration.
Courses, wrap-up session, and final exam
There are 4 courses, 1 wrap-up session and 1 exam which must be completed sequentially. You will have 12 months to complete the Real Estate Broker Program.
Step 3: Apply to change your registration from salesperson to broker
You may apply to change your registration category from salesperson to broker by completing the Application for New Salesperson/Broker form through MyWeb at any time during your registration cycle or, by providing your Real Estate Broker Program transcript at the time of your registration renewal.
Note: Applicants for broker registration who have pending charges, or a criminal history must submit a Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), also known as a level 2 Check that is dated within 6 months of the date you apply to change your registration from salesperson to broker.
